COVID-19 is one young voter’s No. 1 issue

By Lucas Dekaney

As a young voter, it is easy to be overwhelmed when choosing a candidate for governor especially when the media seems to cover the non-important issues. The most important issue I would like to be discussed by the candidates would be how are we going to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus with the quick transmission of both the delta variant, and the new omicron variant.

According to a New York Times database, COVID cases are on the rise with 163,967 new cases on Dec. 10. An all-time low of daily new cases was reported on June 20 with only 4,063 cases, so it is clear that cases are on the rise.

I want to know what would our next governor will do to combat the spread of the coronavirus and what measures will be put into place to protect citizens from the omicron variant especially because it could spread rapidly.
