Democratic strategists have taken a cue from Major League Baseball.

Every year as baseball’s July 31 trading deadline approaches, teams reshape their rosters to increase their chances of winning a World Series by acquiring new players to replace those who are underperforming.

Sound familiar?

President Biden’s decision to step aside and pass the mantle (no pun intended) to Vice President Harris has shaken Democrats out of their doldrums and created momentum. Whether the party can sustain that momentum through Election Day remains to be seen.

To use another baseball analogy, as longtime Baltimore Orioles manager Earl Weaver once said, “Momentum is only as good as tomorrow’s starting pitcher.”
