As the six-month mark of his second term approaches, President Donald J. Trump is receiving low marks from New York State voters.

According to a Siena College poll released Wednesday, 54% of the state’s voters do not feel Trump will make America great, and 60% had unfavorable opinions of the president.
“It’s not surprising in a state where Democrats outnumber Republicans two-to-one – the president’s home for most of his life – that New Yorkers do not think that everything that Trump is doing – domestically and abroad – will make America great,” Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg said.
Trump fared slightly better among upstate voters.
The poll showed that 46% of the state’s upstate voters do not feel he will make America great, and 51% rated him unfavorable.
On questions about Trump’s handling of a series of issues, such as immigration, the economy, trade, taxes, and the wars between Russia and Ukraine and Israel and Iran, upstate voters gave the president higher marks than the statewide numbers.
Donald Levy, director of the Siena College Research Institute, said the largest variances between upstate and statewide numbers were on questions involving immigration, ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and the bombing of Iran.
The numbers “speak to the success of Trump’s strategy to focus on the threat he says is posed by illegal immigration and the apparent receptivity of his base, in this case upstate, to that issue/narrative,” Levy said.
The poll was conducted from June 23 to 26 among 800 New York State registered voters. Results were broken down by several categories including regions, which included New York City, suburbs (Long Island and Westchester, Putnam, Rockland and Orange counties) and upstate, which included the rest of the state.
