Wicked, the film based on the Broadway musical about the two witches from The Wizard of Oz, opened last week and already has grossed more than $100Â million in the United States and Canada.
The film, like the play, takes place in Oz before Dorothy’s arrival, offering a different perspective on the class story.
While the film in the spotlight, it’s worth revisiting the 1939 Wizard of Oz movie and Judy Garland’s performance of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” The Harold Arlen/Yip Harburg composition won the Academy Award for Best Original Song and became Garland’s signature song.
So if you would like to wake up where the clouds are far behind us and where troubles melt like lemon drops, enjoy this week’s Sharp Notes Monday selection.
