Sharp Notes Monday: ‘What’s Going On’

At the end of West Side Story, two rival gangs end their feud – but only after violence leads to deaths. It’s as if they day, “Enough is enough.”

Saturday’s shooting at a Trump rally created the potential for a similar moment. The nation is polarized, and the divide grows wider every day. In the aftermath of the shooting, Democrats and Republicans were united in saying that violence has no place in politics.

The late Marvin Gaye left us with a masterpiece that asked a question we should ask ourselves after Saturday’s shooting: “What’s going on?” That question also is the title of this week’s Sharp Notes Monday selection.

As part of our “Sharp Notes, Sharp Thoughts” music and social media project, we share a song every Monday to start your week.
