The early days of summer 2024 have been a time of political discord, Supreme Court decisions and continued violence in the Mideast.
Clearly, these are matters critical to our quality of life and to the future of our nation and the world.
But we must not forget the joys of summer – sunshine, beaches, vacations and more.
Eddie Cochran’s “Summertime Blues” strikes a balance between the positive and negative emotions that summers evoke. It’s a summer classic that has been covered by performers of widely disparate genres – heavy metal, country, classic rock and more. But the word “blues” in the title is an accurate description of the frustrations experienced by the song’s first-person narrator.
All of which is why “Summertime Blues” is our choice for Sharp Notes Monday this week.
As part of our “Sharp Notes, Sharp Thoughts” music and social media project, we share a song every Monday to start your week.
