Sharp Notes Monday: ‘Father and Son’

Yesterday, we celebrated Father’s Day – a day to reflect on the special bond between fathers and their children.

Father’s Day also reminds us that that bond is universal. It does not matter how powerful, how popular or how rich one is.

Case in point, President Biden’s comments after his son Hunter was found guilty of lying about his drug use while purchasing a handgun in 2018 were more about his relationship with his son than they were about the verdict.

“I am the president, but I am also a dad,” the president said in a statement. “Jill and I love our son, and we are so proud of the man he is today.”

On his 1970 album, Tea for the Tillerman, Cat Stevens wrote about the relationship between fathers and son in a song appropriately titled “Father and Son.” That song is this week’s Sharp Notes Monday selection.

As part of our “Sharp Notes, Sharp Thoughts” music and social media project, we share a song every Monday to start your week.
