
A federal jury has ordered former President Donald Trump to pay $83.3 million for defaming writer E. Jean Carroll.
In an earlier ruling, Trump was convicted of sexually abusing Carroll in the mid-1990s and defaming her on social media. That verdict resulted in a $5 million award.
The $88.3 million was awarded in response to Trump’s continued attacks against Carroll.
“I did something bad” may be an understatement, but the 2017 Taylor Swift song with that title is an appropriate choice for this week’s Sharp Notes Monday selection. Fittingly, the song appeared on album titled reputation.
