On Friday, George Santos became just the sixth member of Congress to be expelled in U.S. history.
The Santos’s story is an incredible one.
After he won election to New York’s Third District congressional seat in 2022, news reports surfaced that he fabricated details about his employment history, his education and other aspects of his life.
A weekly Long Island newspaper, the North Shore Leader, first reported the discrepancies in September 2022, but they did not receive widespread attention until a New York Times story ran after Election Day.
Since then additional questions have arisen about Santos, some of them with legal consequences.
The George Santos saga is far from over, so he is the focus of this week’s Sharp Notes Monday, and our selection is “The Great Pretender,” a classic by the Platters that has been covered by a host of artists ranging from the Band to Freddie Mercury to Ann Margaret.
As part of our “Sharp Notes, Sharp Thoughts” music and social media project, we share a song every Monday to start your week.
