
Among the hostages released by Hamas on Sunday was Abigail Mor Edan, a 4-year old girl who was the youngest U.S. citizen held captive.
Although freedom has long been a popular topic for song, no words or music can fully capture the emotions that Abigail and the other hostages experienced upon their release. For Abigail, the joy of freedom is tempered with the loss of her parents, were killed in Hamas’ Oct. 7 attacks on Israel.
For Sharp Notes Monday, this week’s selection comes from the Who’s Tommy. “I’m Free” was written about a different type of freedom, but the joy in Roger Daltrey’s vocals provides a respite, ever so brief, from the horror and violence in the Mideast.
