The nearly 150,000 members of the United Auto Workers union walked off the job Friday, starting a historic strike with the nation’s three major car manufacturers.
Both sides are far apart, so while the negotiations are underway, we’ll offer a car song as this week’s Sharp Notes Monday selection.
Cars have been a popular topic for songwriters, giving us plenty of material to choose from. We settled on the Stephen Stills/Neil Young collaboration “Long May You Run.” Written by Young as an elegy to his first car, the song captures the love affair so many drivers have with their cars — the tough rides, the memories and the emotions when the vehicle no longer is fit for the road.
As part of our “Sharp Notes, Sharp Thoughts” music and social media project, we share a song every Monday to start your week.
